Nils Byg Jørgensen

European Patent Attorney, Certified Danish Patent Agent

PhD (Physics)

My background and fields of specialization

Patent consultancy
I strengthen businesses competitive position through patent protection and assist my clients in navigating around the obstacles that competitors’ patent rights may present. My advice covers the full spectrum from the development of patent strategies and drafting of patent rights to infringement and opposition proceedings.

Dispute-related matters are of particular interest to me. When the validity of a patent is at stake, the case demands both strategic overview and an in-depth understanding of technical details and patent law. In such matters, I work consistently and purposefully to achieve the best possible outcome for my client.

Focus areas and educational background
I qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2023 and as a Certified Danish Patent Agent (CDPA) in 2024.

I hold a B.Sc., an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in physics from Aarhus University, where I also conducted research as a postdoctoral researcher.

Technical fields of specialization
My background in physics enables me to work across a broad range of technical fields, including mechanics, process engineering, electronics, audio technology, robotics, optics, computer algorithms and power-to-X.

Experience
Before entering the patent profession, I conducted research in experimental atomic physics involving ultracold quantum gases at Aarhus University. I began my career in the patent field at another firm, where I gained my initial experience as a patent advisor before joining Inspicos.

I have experience with virtually all aspects of patent advisory work. In particular, I have extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, always striving to obtain the strongest possible protection for my clients’ innovations. My experience also includes a substantial number of opposition proceedings before the EPO, the European Patent Office.

In my work, I advise established market-leading companies, start-up companies, and universities. In addition, I frequently work onsite with the individual client in order to develop a deeper understanding of their business and thereby establish an even closer and more effective collaboration.

Finally, I teach patent law and am otherwise happy to share my experiences whenever the opportunity arises.

At eye level

When I am not working, I spend time with my family, which includes three children. I also enjoy listening to music, playing football, and immersing myself in strategic board games with friends. To me, there are clear parallels between a complex board game and a patent case: in both, success depends on strategy, overview and a determined pursuit of the best possible result.
